It breaks my heart when I hear of situations like this. That poor mother must be so scared, and the girl terrified of the future. So sorry for them both. I hope they will both be reunited soon and the mother doesn't have another stroke.

Your memory brought back my own. We were living in a condemned cottage that was to be pulled down in about 62 or 63, but my dad managed to get a better paid job, with enough money for a morgage, otherwise we'd have been moved in to a flat too....

I thought this was such a tragic state of affairs in a frightening, despairing life. I was once on the streets just for one night back in the 1980s, it was the coldest,  longest night I've ever experienced, because It's hard to know who to trust...

Being in my early 70s now, I can relate to this poem, although a female,  I was certainly a wild child and a big drinker through my 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. But now I no longer touch the lager, beer or wine and don't miss it.
