It breaks my heart when I hear of situations like this. That poor mother must be so scared, and the girl terrified of the future. So sorry for them both. I hope they will both be reunited soon and the mother doesn't have another stroke.

Hi Jess,
a developing chain of haunting events that lead to strange happenings.
This is my kind of story and the ending was brilliant.

Your memory brought back my own. We were living in a condemned cottage that was to be pulled down in about 62 or 63, but my dad managed to get a better paid job, with enough money for a morgage, otherwise we'd have been moved in to a flat too....

Being in my early 70s now, I can relate to this poem, although a female, I was certainly a wild child and a big drinker through my 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. But now I no longer touch the lager, beer or wine and don't miss it.
Your poem...

This is such a wonderful acknowlegement to your mum. She looks about the same age as my mum in 1965, and I can understand how you feel, as woman now in her early 70s, I so miss my mum even though she died so long ago.
I agree about...

Oh dear! It sounds like there's trouble ahead. I wonder what the Sergeant wants! Will look forward to finding out with anticipation.
