My stories

A Shuffling Up.

When younger, the word of God was writ large in every cloud. Every beat of every heart was a plan. A fate unreeling. An ocean of moments in an arrow...

Bars of Light

Evening sunlight in recumbent ribbons lies dappled on soft curves of southern downs. Our quick-witted boys gambol always just out of touch or reach...

Longing or '**** you, next door's cat.'

F*** you, next door’s cat, sunk in smug puddles of riddled fur, curled like a purring, steaming turd.

Result (Inspiration Point)

So much behind the printer ink lies, behind the quantified, mapped, planned, calculated lives.

Glass Swans

My mother’s mantelpiece holds three glass swans. Nobody knows where she got them from. I doubt she even remembers. 23 years they've been there. Mute. Tamed. Paddling like fuck to stand still. We’re only staying for a week.

It's 4 am for me. Usually when the kids wake up. When everyone else is asleep is when the thoughts start creeping in as you so powerfully described. It becomes a cycle which is highlighted so well by your structure and repeated time.

You have some wonderfully crafted lines in here. The reader moves from tiny detail to sweeping overview quite smoothly.

Needs some proof reading in areas such as '...few hours back. So that I cou...' and '...I did not even got the time...

A massive round of applause

Posted on Thu, 02 Jul 2015

A massive round of applause from me! Well constructed and, as a teacher, I applaud the conceit. We do try to build in life experience but when keeping the school doors open means getting an exam result we are all put through the exam machine...

I was at first put off by the amount of punctuation but after a few reads I now realise it adds to the ebb and flow very nicely. A very enjoyable rhythm.

This is lovely, delicate story-telling. The subtle mysteries draw us in and the imagery anchors us there. Lovely work!

Those soft 's' sounds are both soothing and saddening. The stillness of a Sunday.

This is wonderfully written with a lovely, brisk pace and humour to burn. I found the reminiscing both wistful and insightful, not at all romanticised. An excellent first piece I've read of yours. Welcome!
