I think Alfred should run in the next elections. The electoral vote has never been more splintered so he would be in with a chance. I'm sure he would rule sagely after learning lessons from history.

These characters feel like old friends having read the book. You weave the complexity of relationships with the wonder of magic so adeptly.
I guess that can be the beauty of writing - a world we can escape to for a while.
