I am a Brummie living in North Somerset who loves to write but gets distracted with other things. I enjoy horror/fantasy and anything that provokes original thought.

My literary heroes are Clive Barker, Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe and HP Lovecraft.

Everyone should read George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-four .

I have work published by AlienBuddha Press, Loft Books, BlackBough Poems, DarkWinter Literary Magazine and Paragraph Planet.

That's a wonderful poem as the introduction.

As always, a beautifully crafted travelogue laced with humour. You bring the sites, sights and sounds to life so evocatively.

I stayed at Hersonissus years ago and loved Crete. It's a...

Another wonderful nature poem, Jenny. Almost Gothic (which I love).

The last stanza is ethereal and...well...perfect.

Nicely done, Ed. You capture the mythology of Egypt adeptly and vividly. Enjoyed this.

Vanessa entering her daughter

Posted on Wed, 25 Sep 2024

Vanessa entering her daughter's bedroom resonated with me. I wandered about like a lost lamb in a similar fashion when my little girl went to Uni. I like the half-hearted attempt to make the room look neater.

Spencer's literal...

"...the foamy pond of their comrades.

Their tumid insides screaming..."

That's a deep introspection of how little boys are. Some wonderful lines, imagery and metaphor. Perhaps the most depraved is a wolf. Just maybe.

Enjoyed...

Thank you for referencing one

Thank you for referencing one of my favourites authors. I read quite a bit of RLS when I was younger.

There's a beautiful flow to this matching the theme with interesting questions asked that we often think but rarely articulate.

"..delicious blackberry and apple crumble
for Sunday lunch!"

From tree to plate - a journey documented so well and so elegantly. My mouth was watering by the end and those photos are yummy.

"There is an earthy romance of song in early autumn’s golden hour.."

What a wonderful opening line. Blends beautifully into a haunting tale. The poem lingers long after being read. Immaculate, Lena.

"… What’s a “holiday”?’"

"… What’s a “holiday”?’"

Oof...that's a powerful last line leaving all kinds of issues in the reader's mind. Of course, we often take holidays for granted but many don't get them for lots of reasons. Maybe it's the child's first holiday....

That's an interesting analogy

Posted on Sat, 21 Sep 2024

That's an interesting analogy - slaying the far-right dragon. Maybe although we tend to over simplify with labels and terms. Social unrest only really goes away when the root cause for the issues are resolved or at least seen to be given time and...
