Even reading the term 'woodland' brings a feeling of green shade, and a feeling of fresh air straying through it! Trees do seem to survive quite a waiting for rain, but then they can drink it up, and as you say it feeds their beauty. Is that...
Seems a tragic parallelism between his mother's imaginative talking to the porcelain figurines, and his building up of 'castles in the air' and as you say, just desperately thinking he can start a new life, without attention to his own character...
I hadn't thought of waterfalls being uncommon in England, I suppose it is the kind of landscape. So many near here and in Wales. But this one looks quite unusual. The sound of waterfalls is very refreshing, and themore gentle burbling of rivers...
I've been mulling over this awhile since reading. Intriguing, you seemed to be teasing about possible supernatural and evil solutions, and then possibly negating them, but in the end leaving things quite open, all in a sort-of 'tongue-in-cheek'...
