I found this piece very moving and heartening. Your grandad sounds like a great man who taught you so much about how to be one, too, and to show you good paths to follow, and even if we get lost now and again, that sort of guidance stays with us...

As Philip said, very beautiful. And it does speak to all who have lost someone. I found it so very moving - in floods of tears - for the sadness, and the happiness you decided to adopt knowing it was what would be wanted from you. I so get that....

Oh, so clever! You built the narrators character so brilliantly by using contrast to the 'main' character, and the twist coming right at the end - you got me!!!

This is good, AE. 'no use assigning blame.' - that doesn't seem right as you are assigning blame. If you took that out, I think it would work well. Lots of emotion behind the words.
