I'm concerned now, about the Triceratopses. You've got me thinking about when my son was little and we used to finish shopping by going to the toy shop to shut him up, and if I was exhausted and he was persistent he might get one of the cheap...
You are right, the grief for an animal often nudges previous griefs. This is so very well written, and although it's intensely personal it's also completely recognisable and relatable for the reader. Thanks for posting.
I've caught up with all this now, and really enjoying it. It feels as though you really know your characters and the setting, and I'm really liking the way it builds. Lots of intriguing points along the way and 'breadcrumbs' to draw the reader in...

And when even the most compliant start getting restive about the inconvenient dead bodies and starving kids, hey, let's go bomb somewhere else as a bit of a distraction and the latest entry in the dick-swinging competition.
I do have a smartphone, but I refuse to use it to pay anything, or have any apps that require me to upload bank details. It's handy for taking photos (where I would take photos anyway, not to Instagram my life!). I use very basic apps, really....
