I'm not unaffected by such deaths, more angry and exasperated and desperately sorry for those who loved them. People have always done dangerous and downright stupid things, cocooned in a belief in their own invincibility. It's desperately sad.

I love that phrase, 'Worse things happen at sea' - it was my grandmother's response to pretty much any calamity, be it petty or catastrophic. I occasionally use it myself, and my kids look at me in complete bewilderment.
