My sister found a pile of postcards – some to me, some unposted by me, over sixty years old. Many memories, some mysterious (who was that friend?) … - birthday greeting from over 60 years ago…

The details of the scenery and sounds of the occasion have reallhy stuck in your mind, haven't they? That seems to happen when something is a big fright or puzzle when you are young Rhiannon
That is interesting. My father spent quite a bit of time in Burma in the British forces in the war. He wrote a letter to his fiancee on the slow journey back by ship detailing some of his expeiences as he was free to do now that the war was over...

I don't really remember the great elms, I'm sorry to say, but I have always loved the distinctive seeds with their circular wing, and get so excited when I see them in a hedgrow. They make a lovely pattern against a blue sky. I think it is that...
Fascinating view of the port, and of the wheat management. I suppose if I'd thought of it at all I'd have thought of it neatly shrink-wrapped into huge cube bundles at the point of loading. Plastic saved, but removal long and complex! Rhiannon
It is amazing how many creatures live in and on the old oak trees. They are a lovely metaphor of the wisdom an aging person can have gleaned, and the care of others. Rhiannon
Seems from the photos that you had some very good weather - especially in the very interestting ones that seemed to be of New Mills. Not somewhere I knew anything about but the mills and river walks and bridges looked special. Rhiannon
I too liked the phrase, Sufficient soaking for trees and flowers and, as she said, it is rather onomatopoetic. Had to look up the spelling of that! But meant that it seems to sound a bit like the rain gently soaking in.
