[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]

So long ago, so much foretold
of how salvation would unfold.
The King would come, the Prince of Peace
the mighty God would bring release –
a son would take our sins away
– we all like sheep have gone astray:
in Bethlehem he would be born
for task immense – salvation’s dawn.

Those who came seeking from afar
because they’d seen this special star
‘Go, search in Bethlehem,’ they were told
for that’s where prophets had foretold
the King Messiah would one day
come. Then the star showed them the way:
the child they worshipped, but by dream
were kept from aiding Herod’s scheme.       (Isaiah 9:2,6; 53:4-6 ;  Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:1-12)

Beautiful words Rhiannon! We are really looking forward to Christmas I think it will be better this year for us too at home.

Think of the Lord baby Jesus safe and sweet slumber within midst all the murder and carnage and grave dangers of a dreaded night, our little Lord safe in His Great Hand, night of terror of massacre and bloodshed of babies and infants. Of screaming and sorrow and no consolation and of no hope only death.

Safe satisfied and content in his manger the little King born, his small crib safe as the the Bank of England. Like me and you protected and defended by God Himself.

And yes, the way Mary and Joseph were warned to take Jesus down to Egypt while Herod's jealous schemes and cruelty tried to have him killed before he could do his wonderful teaching and redemptive work!
