Brothers, neighbours,
nearby nations:
misjudgements, misunderstandings
ancient grievances
hatred set in stone,
each others’ characters unknown,
– and do each know their own?
friction fruitless
greed, conceit
distrust and fear
tit for tat
lash out
wrong target, misdirected,
new injustice
vengeance repeat
new bitterness …

Peacemakers calm and scold
promise, expose
lies,
interpose,
compromise,
advise, explain
bribe? reward?
complain –
peace fragile,
mistrust, mistakes,
misconception,
frustration.

One day …
the lamb will sleep with the wolf,
a child will play by the viper’s den,
and swords will be beaten into plough blades 
– when the Prince of Peace returns
to reign and rule
– Come, Lord Jesus!

The sermon on the mount, what wonderful promises, great comort, of heaven and but grave warnings,

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven".

Thank you, Nolan, yes, the words are very penetrating and challenging and comforting, but not encouraging to half-heartedness or pride or hypocrisy, but for real faith. Rhiannon

You don't go to Heaven by being good, you go by worshipping God.  I was raised Baptist but I'm not baptized, crazy, right?  My dog tags are embossed with NO REL PREF.  I don't worship in a specific religion but just at home, read my Bible, say my prayers.  Pray that it's enough.  I want to go to church but, nevermind, I don't know if we need to make peace.  I think many confuse peace with the end of violence but we need to sometimes violently react to a threat against peace . . . I'm just rambling

You don't go to Heaven by being good, you go by worshipping God. True, and worshipping God means accepting his words, and so Jssus as a substitute, taking our punishment for all we've ever done that we shouldn't have, or neglected to do that we should have, and giving us his righteousness to wear, and new life.

Baptism is just a way of saying publicly that you have received his forgiveness and new life.

Fellowship with others who love Him and His gospel is commanded for our good, though it is not always easy to find such a fellowship, and where the Bible is taught faithfully and explained. Such a fellowship of people will delight in welcoming anyone who has faith, or genuinely wants to learn God's ways.

Your last sentence seems to be pointing out the need for self-defence, and defence of others being violently threatened..

Yep.  That's why I support Israel.  America will always support Israel and I don't give a damn who has a problem with that.
