Did you ever mourn for that which you can't name?
The passage of time and the things left undone.
That gnawing, that loss, that doesn't make sense.
Unfulfilled promise that you can't quite recall.
The dreams that you had, faded just out of sight.
For the person you thought you'd always turn out to be, who was
Smarter and
Thinner and
More beautiful and
Ate better and
Griped less and
Adventured more and
Volunteered and
Saved money.
Going through day to day
Surviving, sustaining,
But never quite living.
Thinking just round the bend maybe all this will change.
But in your heart
The truth known all too well.
This is your life
And it's bland and mundane
And that's what you mourn for
