Waiting for the bus at dawn,
Muffled up in scarves and caps,
With gas mask bags saved from the war,
Shouldered on their suds-oiled macs.
Heading for the factory floor,
Labourers, foremen, electricians,
Welders, setters, apprentice fitters,
All with their lunches neatly packed,
Woodbine smoking factory rats.
