The Thing Inside
By Mark Cantrell
"Oh my God! The pain!"
The writer screamed
As the agony
In his head
Throbbed like a
Super novic star.
He rubbed his temples
Gritted his teeth
And closed his eyes
All to no avail.
The pain grew worse,
The pressure intense
Like his head was about to burst.
A groan
A scream
His scalp exploded
Sending brain &; skull
Hair and blood
Splattering on the walls.
And there it roosted
In the bloody mess
The thing he sought
To cage on the page.
All tentacles &; claws
Suckers and horror,
The thing
Twittered and screeched
In its nesting hole
Of residual brain
And congealing gore.
At the tip of each tentacle
Was a stylus
Dipped in blood.
With such pens
It wrote its words
And the quivering
Rigor mortising
Scribe
Surrendered to the muse
Inside.
