My final struggle

My final struggle
Like a convict, escape into the dark
A damp night shrouded in an eerie black
A hollow crate, chilling silence,
See nobody yet behind walls they lay
Oblivious but comfortable, protected from my dilemma
Hear nothing but footsteps, crunching on
Soggy gravel and wet leaves
2 minute run and headlights flash
Petrify shadows, a get away vehicle
Twitching nerves and broken conversation
Radio on low? Barry White echoes
Sinking feeling and doubt smeared
Insides squirm, anguish and shaky fingers
Conflicting opinions
Need to run but desire to stay and complete
A pounding in the side of my head
A cold throb and grinding teeth in anxious sweat
first time begins, my final struggle over
