Missing

I once read that absence is to love as wind is to fire - as the
breeze blows out the candle and ignites the bonfire, so absence
diminishes small loves and inflames the inescapable ones.
Fine words. true words - but they're a cold cup of comfort to the ones
who are missing.
Ask the man who has lost a foot. Does he still long to run? The blind
man - has he given up wanting to see? Does the memory of a daybreak
suffice?
Now, ask me.
Does your absence make you more precious?
Does the memory of you hold me together?
Knowing that we have to be apart for your benefit, does that make it
easier to stay away?
The answers, as always, are 'yes".
I miss you. I love you.
I may miss you always, but I will love you forever.
