Frozen Beneath

Your surface glitters in the right light.
They think they can see through this aesthetic layer
although they don't dare to see the centre
which behind a dark crystal layer
glimmers entombed.
You only want people when you want something of them,
although he make them want your sparkling personality
and jutting corners. Surrounding
yourself in shallow faces,
but maybe that's how you get through your days.
You never seem to crack under the pressure,
you have that hardness I wish I had.
I must be too hot to handle,
or too cold for you now;
as you won't let me near enough
to melt your heart.
Or maybe you're afraid,
that I might unleash what lingers at your frozen core.
You can do so much better than to go along with them,
your easily manipulated citizens.
What about the gift you had,
when you took nothing from the world,
giving out wisdom and empathy through words?
That was before your surface glazed over,
closing off your mind to the great scheme of things.
Now I reflect and shiver;
how you've grown so cold.
