Medieval Brigands On The Road
“Pigs on site pigs on site”rings out. Dogs start barking, while people start to pour out of their tatty buses trucks and caravans. A police car pulls onto Sugar Loaf Mountain. We surround the car. We realise there are probably a lot more cops parked a little way down the road just in case things go bad. Two cops emerge their pips blazing brightly, these are high rankers I guess they might be chief superintendent and chief inspector, but I'm not that sure.
.
The first thing they want to know is who's our leader. A ripple of laughter travails around the circle. “We have no leader” someone says. This is not strictly true, Phil the only man on site not to have bothered coming out of his coach was if not a leader a pretty good choice of adviser in a tight spot
The two policemen's mission was to get us out of their hair and out of their county as quickly as possible. If we could provide them a representative to negotiate with, they suggested, we could perhaps come to some kind of amicable arrangement and thus violence be averted .But, they would not negotiate with us all at the same time.
“See if Phil wants to talk to them” one of the Cats And Dogs Crew said
Double Decker Mick went to fetch Phil, who's coach was parked a little way off from the main group of vehicles, as Mick approached Phils Phil opened the door and a few words exchanged Then, Phil called out for the cops to come aboard.
We watched mildly amused as the two cops marched smartly towards the coach. We all edged closer to the coach too afford a better view of the action The large coach windows meant we could all see what was happening. We could see Phil's two Alsation dogs the Krays padding up and down the aisle and wondered if Phil would bother to keep them from a unexpected free breakfast.
Before boarding the dogs come out of the coach they circled the cops like a pair of sharks “Don't worry they'll not touch ya lads” calls phil. Gingerly the cops clime into the coach. Once on board Mick climes up too. The Krays sit down on the grass one either side of the coach doors.
We watch as the four men sit down around a small table, the two cops on one side Phil and Mick on the other. On the table between them there is a large open carrier bag of grass and a slab of soap bar. We all watch smoke starting to fill the bus. Mick and phil were busy rolling bigger and ever more outlandish joints throughout negotiations.
When the cops finally stagger back to their police car and slowly drive off site we've been promised three days to undertake repairs and a tank of petrol or diesel for every vehicle
