A Baby To Hold

I have never been blessed with a baby to hold,
Pretty soon statistics will see me as too old,
But part of my heart is cold.
I don't have a little person that looks like me,
Someone who relies on me to cook their tea,
Or patch them up when they have grazed their knee.
I've no need to throw an elaborate Birthday Day party,
Or lay out milk and cookies on Christmas Eve.
I'm not needed to tuck them in nice and tight,
or to soothe their tears when they have had a fright.
I'm not needed as it has never happened,
I don't know why,
It just hasn't.
