Morceau for Descartes by J.B. Pravda
Mocking any notion of time-space, eyes met and locked and, through
those ports mutuality was born.
Neither knew the age, origin, thinking of the other, only that they
were somehow connected, had somehow 'always' been so. And this
virtually molecular bond was steely in its strength, yet lighter than
measurable density. Neither seemed to tire of the other, spending
endless hours together, however mundane the task, without fail.
Now, together before Dr. Mordacius for the first time, came the first
test of whether they could withstand the rigors of so close a
relationship.
"Good morning to you both" the Doctor began, mechanically. For a brief
silence, during which the two looked into each other's eyes, then
looked in unison at their greeter, eyes seeming even to blink
together.
"Good morning to you Dr.; we are ready for our session" came the
seemingly synchronized return greeting, equally perfunctory.
A broad smile spread across the proud face of Dr. Mordacius as he
turned to the guests he had invited to sit in without objection from
the couple.
"Well, General Smythe, and colleagues, I think we are ready to proceed
with the weapons applications protocol for Max and Maxine".
