Enough

I will walk long into the winter,
With only the memory of words
To become their prisoner as I
Watch day dissolve in the splintered
Air that gathers away the birds
Because you are not here
And words are not enough
I will leave the spring behind
Draining the colour from the sun,
Earth and the moon as I
Feel the seas freeze and find
That air's no comfort for the lungs
Because you are not here
And the air is not enough
Perhaps I'll fly into a night
Dreaming of you paralleled,
Buoyed through the sleepy depths
Like the moon's angel-grey light
Soaring until day dispels
But you won't be there
And the night won't be enough
I possess the memories though,
As adrift a needle on a black sea
Makes the sad songs, and the rain's taste
Churn in your wake as it goes
And wine will not free me
Because you are not here
And the memory is not enough
