"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men.
True nobility comes from being superior to your former self."
~ Hermann Hesse, "Siddhartha"
I traveled on a dusty road
Seeking a companion to walk
with before the sun fell,
before the sky became dark.
I met a traveler, dressed in robes of finest silk
with jewelry and possessions that pained the eye.
He said he was looking for enlightenment,
And with nary a glance I passed him by.
I then encountered a pilgrim, this one but
skin and bones clothed in rags. I sighed;
he was searching for truth by poverty's way.
And once again, I passed him by.
Then I met a young man whom nobody would notice,
Ordinary to all, pausing to rest at the bottom of a hill.
I asked where he went, and he said he didn't know.
Without a thought, I sat with him?I am with him still.
