A glistening facade of public faces
Huddle as conspirators practicing their roles
Feet upon the cold glistening ground
Toes curl in anticipation, housed in leather, locked in place
One is an optimist
One an atheist
Another Godly in thought and deed
Some unsure, searching
Others with eyes only for themselves
Some watch the others with apprehension
Above, the wire prevents the out pouring of emotions
That live between the lies, the symbols, the made up reality
Born of neurons and chemistry
They fear the dark shadow that walks alone, but
Among them, within them, always pointing to the core
The molten rock that heats their desire
Fuels their anxieties
The good and the bad of them
The fix they're in
To have infinite possibilities in their minds,
Minds housed within finite bodies.
