Satisfied
Jim looked up from his work. His small son was lying fast asleep in his
cot, and everything in the room seemed peaceful.
Jim remembered when life had not been so easy. Round about WW2,he
nearly lost his life, and many others.
Jim was in the Navy. It was quite exciting when you first arrived, but
after a while unhygenic circumstances and stuffy small rooms took its
toll. Jim caught the flu. In his letters to Mary, his young wife, he
recalled the events and his treatment. But the treatment and the shots
didn't seem to work.
After a while others started catching the flu. A nurse was sent out to
help them, but it was too late for some. Jim spent most of his time out
of action, lying in a hospital bed, but when he did finally go into
combat, after he had recovered, he regretted it straight away. Miles
upon miles of concentration camps, also known as death march.
Jim survived all this, and he knew he was very lucky to be alive. That
was why he was writing a book about it, to tell others about
everything.
Jim was lucky, he only lost a leg, but others suffered far more. Jim
was satisfied tht he had done his part in the War, however small, and
he was glad he survived it.
