NORTHERN SKYLINES
Shooting stars, the Mir space station, Haley's
Comet, the Aurora Borealis, sights
Seldom seen elsewhere no one ever sees
Here in Manchester where clouds and street lights
Block the dark night sky from most human eyes.
Sometimes they can barely see their own Moon,
Owls, bats, moths, planes or anything that flies.
South of the Equator they see Neptune
Without binoculars or telescope
But not here in the Northern Hemisphere
Where there's too much neon glare, so I hope
You will bring our main invasion force here
Where they take gloom for granted and don't try
To crane their necks towards the stars or sky.
