Aberration.

I live in an area of Calcutta called Golf Green. As the name suggests the place is rather greenish. And very picturesque too.Wherever you look there are patches of soothing green. The breeze is cool and peaceful. And the air is rather pollution free for an indian city.Indeed I am lucky to be staying in this place. The pride and joy of Golf Green is certainly Central Park. Its a circular Park that has forbidding iron fencing all around it.The grass inside is supposedly imported,so beautiful is its texture and feel.Film shootings are happening here nearly all the time. And during such events the park is not accessible to the common people. The park is magnificent such as it is.But its crowning glory is certainly the central fountain. This fountain is said to draw water from a lake underground. The park had been built by filling up this lake but the water table has still not dried out.Every evening a few hundred people gather in and around the park to watch the fountain in full thrust. Some people drink the water too. This includes employees of a local eatery who are my great friends.
Seven days back there was sudden trouble in Central Park.A child was drinking out of the fountain when he noticed that the water was in fact yellow. He asked his father about it and the gentleman found the water rather bitter. And he knew what it was too-lager beer. There was a lot of confusion immediately.People started running helter-skelter.Rumour was rife that the water underground had turned into beer.No one knew how though. The news was on television and the papers the next day. That very evening there was more confusion. The fountain water had turned red now and it tasted a bit sour. One knew at once that it was good quality wine. The next day the fountain water was bubbly.Surely the source of this was the choicest champagne.By now the whole city knew about it.People came from far and wide to feast their eyes on the "alcoholic fountain and drink from it.But the local authorities were now looking to make a fast buck. They charged ten pounds per cup now.On the fourth day the fountain yielded gin.
As people made a beeline for Central Park I happened to meet my friends from the restaurant. And then it all became clear to me.The owner of the restaurant had made some clandestine purchases of alcohol without paying the necessary excise duty.It was the hot season and people drank lesser than usual. So,to get rid of his excess stock he had had the alcohol poured into the drains around Central Park. One type of alcohol each day.The intoxicating beverages had somehow seeped into the fountain's water supply. It was no miracle after all.Merely a mix-up.And to think we were making up grand theories every minute.
