Vindication

Conny and Parker have been friends since childhood. Neither Conny
nor Parker is good looking. Connie is very short and has tiny eyes.
Parker is chubby and has a paunch. Both of them wanted to be actors
ever since they started watching films. Neither could become a hero.
Comedy was their chosen discipline. They were fine actors, both of
them. They had great comic timing and could make anyone laugh. When
they started out in the film industry few good roles were offered to
them. That is, till they decided to pair up. Connie and Parker were
included in films where their job was to provide comic relief. They
could no longer move among people without being mobbed. Wherever they
went people called out, 'There's Connie!' and 'That's Parker!' They had
dinner with their families at China Garden every Sunday. It was during
one of these dinners that Connie's wife suggested that the twosome
should have their own show. Connie spoke to a network producer the next
day and he forwarded the proposal to the powers that be.
And that is how 'The Connie-Parker Show' began. It was shown at ten pm
every night on television. People became used to expecting the show at
that time. Whole schedules were drawn around the programme. No matter
how busy families were during the day they always found time to watch
the immensely popular laugh-show. The show itself had a fixed format.
In each episode Connie and Parker tried a new scheme. They were
qualified to do nothing. Despite this they tried becoming doctors,
policemen, insurance agents, investment bankers and many other things.
On television of course. Whatever the duo tried to do ended in a mess.
They failed miserably all the time. A very interesting fallout of this
was that real people began to consider them stupid and incapable. Their
intelligence was regarded below par. Indeed the success of the
Connie-Parker show was so great that they had no life outside what was
exhibited on their show. People refused to believe that the two people
were any different from the pair that they saw on television.
A new episode of The Connie-Parker Show is being shot today. The whole
thing will be shot indoors at Aurora Studio. Today's story runs like
this. Connie and Parker have opened a detective agency. Their job is to
conduct secret probes into various matters. Connie is asked to enquire
about a bride-to-be. Parker has to investigate her prospective husband.
The story explores how Connie and Parker mix up their duties and how
the clients find out about each other. It took about six hours to can
the entire episode. Connie and Parker were ready to return home.
There is a branch of Loan Bank just outside Aurora Studio. Due to
various reasons this branch is open till six pm for transactions. Both
comedians keep their money here. Today is a rare day when both Connie
and Parker need to withdraw money. As the two of them entered the bank
almost everyone present started laughing. "There are the stupid people.
There are the imbeciles."they started saying. Some people even threw
paperweights at them. One of the girls said, "I would never marry
anyone called Connie or Parker. Ha!" As the insults came fast and thick
a man covered in a black mask and costume entered the bank. He thrust a
gun at the teller's temple and asked him to hand over all the cash. And
that is exactly when Connie and Parker sprung into action.
Connie quickly snatched the hoodlum's gun while Parker hit him hard in
the stomach. After a brief skirmish the thief was overpowered.
Connie-Parker became instant heroes. The people now saw them as strong,
able, dependable men.
