A few more hours
And earth rumbles
No longer graciously humble
Mad pebbles hopping
Flowers in disdain, shrivel
As fading sun burns
Heavy in black sky.
No more starlit wonders
Or pancakes on Shrove Tuesday
No hymns sung on Sunday
Ice cream scoop barren
For all has melted
Embarrassed
No play for this shameful narrative
Warning global warming
Paid no heed
Batteries disintegrated in radio
When hell came from below
No whisper of a lullaby
Or newborn breath taking flight
Animals scattered finding no delight,
Earth simply shakes in foreboding
We are all overdrawn
Taking, taking, taking
We were warned
But took no notice
Seeds dispersed now turn unearthed
I only hear screaming of thousands
Finding no hope of turning
Walls are pitifully crumbling
Like a dust swept home-coming.
I reach empty handed for my child
Sucked into lava of chaos
My love seated in my mind
I don’t care for diamonds or houses
I need to feel them one last time,
Touch precious little lips
Utter tender loving endearments
Echo my heart
Before all goes dark
And the world says
Goodnight
