Dawn Waltz

Down dropped the raven from her sky beating flight
To the ground still damp with the rains and the dew
She touches her beak to the star painted grass
Among spider webs tinted a silvery hue
Hopping and flapping with clownish grace
She picks her breakfast from the loamy earth
While the pink morning sun peeks like a small girl
Over lavender mountain tops; a quiet rebirth
Today is a good day, and special from others
Mother Nature is providing a special bug treat
The marshy, wet ground is now all a'popping
An abundance of offerings the raven finds sweet
She expresses her joy in the shake of her feathers
With her raucous caw still shimmering on air
Scraping her talons through the grass and the mud
She coaxes an insect from his waterlogged lair
Snatching the creature in her tangerine beak
She cocks her head to the side to consider
Her yellow-ringed eye intent on her catch
She makes up her mind what to do with her dinner
The raven's black feathers shine blue in the light
They glimmer like silk with the sun's pretty tricks
Spreading her wings, she returns to the sky
Soaring with purpose, to nurture her chicks
