Accident Andy ..

I got the bus one rainy night
To visit someone that l like
He's been off work for many years
And l've been there to hear his fears
Jumping on to his front step
The same old anxious feelings crept
Up and over every part
It's breaking, this, my aching heart
Oh no. He's not at home, my head
Is pounding loudly, where's he at?
I thought that he would love to see
His long term girlfriend (that was me)
A car. It's coming up the road
I hide behind some jaggy rose
What behaviour, stalking, clearly
But l miss this person, really
Out jumped his two little girls
'Grandad, can we stay at yours?'
'Of course, sweetheart. Call your mum
The bedroom's always ready, done'
I nearly fainted on the spot
Sneaking, discovering that he's not
This depressed person of my thoughts
He's looking vital. He's not lost
Goodness me, what should l do
Would it be appropriate to say 'hello'
He might be a little miffed
Sharing time with his grandkids
Plucking up the courage, l
Adjust my posture, smiling, bright
Walking to the shiny door
Ring-ring the bell
It opens
'NO!'

Hi Denni.
Hi Denni.
I like poems that tell a story and you told this one amusingly and well, except that I recognize a lot of the feelings in it, and so apart from enjoying the read, I also felt sympathy for the narrator.

I've been wondering how
I've been wondering how things have been with Accident Andy. I found a piece you wrote about him earlier in the year really affecting. Sorry Denni - I take it from the 'No!' at the end, that it's not going so well?
