my sister moved from the farm to
the city and was content for years to be away from her roots.
living in an unincorporated part
of town, and with a very large
back yard she decided to buy
a pair of ducks.
these ducks were loud,always
quacking.they were she said
her pets and lived happily in
the yard eating their bugs and
swimmng in the pool she bought
for them.
one day she went out to take
them their corn they ate,and to
refill the pool with clean water
and found the mama duck dead.
the papa duck was standing there
looking up at the sky.after removing mama she refilled the
pool and put the corn in the
usual spot and went back into
the house.
she went out next day to feed
papa and noticed that he wasn't
eating or swimming in his pool.
she thought he might be sick and
decided to keep an eye on him.
next few days he ate very little
and walked around looking up at
the sky,maybe he's lonesome she
thought i guess i had better get him another mate
the place where she had bought the ducks were out of mama ducks
since he was lonely she bought
another male for company.
now she had two male ducks that
went around all day looking up
at the sky and eating very little, and looking sickly.
not knowing what to make of this
she called the vet to ask what
to do.
you have to have a female duck he said they don't know what to
do unless they are told by the
female.
calling everywhere she finally
found a mama duck.as soon as she put the duck in the yard, she
started quacking instructions
at the males.everything returned
to normal. they followed her every move. when she swam they swam,if she
ate so did they.
it was the most amazing thing i
ever saw she said.i think they must be a lot like men.they can
make it just fine if they never
get around a female.if they do find their mate.they just stop thinking
and let her handle it.
