The Catholic
-----------------
What is a Catholic?
Lapsed or practising
Good or bad
I am one that you see before you
I am the same as you but different
Years of holy, dogmatic ritual
Have formed me and shaped my being
My soul
Blackened through sin or
Bleached with piety and pure thoughts
Who knows?
Icame screaming into this world
What was I before?
What will I be next?
What am I now?
That screeching bloody bundle of flesh
Formed in Original Sin
And in seconds became a Catholic
A child of Rome
My early brain assaulted by teachers, dog eared dogma
Of
Who is God? God is us
Where is God? God is everywhere
What is God? God is love
The guilt stays on my young shoulders
For He is watching at all times
As a small boy I await at the altar
For the white flat wafer of His Body
Which sticks to my tongue and chokes me
I attend my priest as an acolyte
And give him the Blood Of Christ
Disguised as cheap wine
Later years bring independent thoughts of
Love and
Lust and
Sex yet strangely
I wear this as a badge of pride
What is a Catholic?
I am one
Was one and always will be one
For ever and ever
Amen;
