Feline Phantom

Insanity flickered in her eyes, a madness she could not
contain,
as she ravenously chewed and gnawed on the wires,
and seemed to relish each shock, though it must have burned her like
fire.
Nothing could stop her quest, for the searing volts to her teeth.
No power of pepper or other deterrent,
guaranteed to stop a rational beast,
Which, of course, as I knew, she wasn't.
What could have caused this odd quirk in her brain, from whence this
strange desire?
Finally had her put down, didn't want to, but she'd caused a small
fire.
Two months later, her essence was back,
(She was nothing if not persistent)
A light at the end of the hall, glowing and moving, shouldn't have been
there at all,
I knew it was her when I saw it.
Heart pounding, I ran to the room- nothing, though I looked
everywhere.
I thought I'd imagined the light,
though I knew in my heart it was there.
Seconds later, halfway down the hall, a noise
in the room with no one in it.
Shakily I looked in to see...
Two teddy bears thrown the length of the room.
Nothing else moved.
In a room with no one, but me.
I was alone in the house.
At least I had been a moment ago.
Now it was me and the insane ghost of a cat,
sharing a final electric jolt.
