Slave Baby of the New Millennium
Slow Motion
you've found your way to not finding your way
sleeping in nowhere
comfortable in the abyss
you cover yourself with fog
hide beneath the rain
struggle for the sand in the desert
you eat mud pies you made when you were a child
and make snow angels naked
the sky has closed in on you when you realize
moving your feet is the only path to freedom
Haze
mist on the horizon
cloaks a goliath beckoning
a mirage
sucking life into it like a black hole
Self-Inflicted Metaphysical Lobotomy
I reached into the library of ancient genius
and pulled my hand out empty
I breathed in dust and coughed
my head puffed up with unused energy
hot air and steam
I screamed at the mirror behind the dust
seeing a skeletal figure with frightened eyes
I reached in again and found notes that had already been played
words that had already been spoken
pictures that had already been drawn
Horror
he closed his eyes and wished for the end
and when he opened them again
he wished for youth
The Nature of Nature
he read the last few pages of the book
closed it
turned out the lamp next to his bed
and as he always did when he knew it was time to sleep
he thought
his brain filling with thoughts like a bathtub filling with water
he'd finished the last chapter
in the last book
in the last trilogy
written by the last author he trusted
and was no wiser
Crippled
he walked through the plain white hallway
said many hellos and good mornings
entered the three walled structure he called home
eight hours a day
five days a week
sat on the grey office chair
stared at the screen
like a drug entering his bloodstream through his eyes
zoning him out into complacency
as his bank account filled with money
like a bathtub filling with water
Steam
the bathtub fills with hot water
steam fills the bathroom
and the mirror fogs up
as he steps into the warm water
immersing his body in solitude
Dusty Love Song
he dropped the glass angel
and dust spilled out onto the floor
he raised his head to see his lonely bride
smiled a smile of apology
she looked into his eyes and smiled back
seeing the hurt running deep through his pupils
like a coal mine through the side of a mountain
she knew she'd never grow wings
but she had faith that he'd always come back when he flew away
Momentum Crashing and Stall
I close my eyes and picture twisted black metal
careening down the road like a boulder in an avalanche
I open my eyes and slam my foot down
I feel the car move forward after it stops
pull back
and
I feel the jagged metal scratch my skin
head slams black into steering wheel
the car comes to a stop as I open my eyes
Cell Phone
I scream out into the moaning wind
it carries the howl with careless abandon
I swing my fists at illusionary monsters
call you on my cell phone and beg for a ride
as I wait in the midnight rain
drizzle chilling my skin and bones
I can't tell if the drops on my face
are rain or tears
Anti-Masochistic
she begs me not to slice into myself
easing the pain by causing different pain
bashing my head into the glass wall
so the itching of my soul won't bother me
she gives me a towel and I wrap it around my neck
looking for a good place to hang from
and she tells me to wipe the acid off my skin
I try to gouge out my eyes
so the wailing light won't kill me
and she hands me a pair of dark sunglasses
Music in the Dark
uncertainty covers you
like night darkness as you lie in bed
waiting for sleep to cloak your senses
to come over you in its black wave
washing away joy and sorrow
