Argument
'I can't believe your saying this.'
'Well you won't listen anyway.'
She flung open the door and marched into the garden. The smell of
freshly cut grass hit them.
'Just tell my why I was supposed to work so bloody hard all these
years, it I'm not to go on to university.'
He started humming a song from the past.
'All I'm saying love is that it will be wasted.'
'Wasted, wasted... you fucking hypocrite.'
'I'm only thinking of you.'
'Of me?' she said violently kicking the swing 'How can you say that? I
can't believe your blocking me on this.'
The swing, the song, and the cut grass she was the little girl with
tangled hair in her blue pyjamas, looking out of the window. As she'd
smiled at him he'd strode over. Instead of the expected reprimand his
big hands had reached in and lifted her out of the window. She'd
cuddled into his neck smelling the warm mixture of aftershave and
sweat. He'd carried her over to the swing and whispered into her ear,
'Up to the sky then, love?'
She looked back at him he seemed somehow smaller now.
He looked over
'Ok don't listen. Go off and do what ever you like and while your at
it, why don't you move out as well.'
