Epicentre

We had a moment one autumn
When we drifted alone
Two golden sunwashed leaves
Falling to earth on dying breeze
I held you in my hands
Your colours dazzling and pure
Though jaded and worn with life
You illuminated my darkest night
Our colours combined you showed me how
From shadows we become a rainbow
Trouble is rainbows fall from the sky
Just like your colours they fade and die
I still have moments in autumn
When blue skies and memory meet
Find myself in our garden of trees
Shimmering in dying summer heat
Standing alone in a veil of rain
No leaves like you have fallen again
Our garden lies ruined and bare
With nothing to show you were ever there
Weeds suffocate the flowers we grew
Dark clouds cover the colours we knew
And the snows of winter will hide the way
Back to the heaven we felt that day
