Distinctive.

There are some smells, that when you smell them, it makes it very hard to resist them.
For me, there are three.
The smell of chips. If someone has a bag of chips, and they offer me one, it is very hard to say, “No thank you.” As they smell SO wonderful. It makes me wish I had a bag too.
I love the smell of chips. It has to be with salt and vinegar. And if possible each one dipped in either gravy, or tomato ketchup!
If someone is making toast, and then offer me a slice of buttered toast, it is very hard to say, “No thank you.” The smell of toast is very comforting. Toast is so versatile, you have it with butter, lashings of butter and then add marmalade, thick tasty honey, or on its own with Nutella. Cheese on toast is divine! Cheese on toast with all the trimmings is amazing, with onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, black pepper, tomato ketchup, the times in the past, that I have gone to bed on that!
I remember my school friends at break-time ages 13-15 opening their foil, and revelling the strong small of buttered toast! This opened up a different culture to me, for no one in my culture had ever had cold buttered toast. The delicious smell would waft under my nose, as I would say, “How can you eat that cold?” They would say, “Try it, have a slice.” To be honest it was odd at first, but after a few days of this, I was hooked. I never did bring buttered toast to school. But years later, when I had to commute to work on the train, as the train sped off, I would put my tall flask on the table and take out my buttered toast rapped up in foil. Nothing could beat it for a delicious breakfast on the go. It always brought back happy memories. And it hit the spot; it set me up for the day.
I love toast.
Another gorgeous smell, where recently we have eaten a lot of since Christmas, is bacon! I have made sure; we have had a steady supply in our home. Before Christmas we didn’t really eat that much of it, but it seems to have been a huge hit. It is something we all love in our family. Diets seemed to have been put on hold, while we get through the Winter. I like my bacon either way grilled or fried. Daniel and Meghan, put theirs in the air fryer. I usually have four rashers onto two slices of toast, with goats’ butter and medium peri peri sauce and tomatoes. It made for a very satisfying breakfast today; it was 10 out of 10.
There is another very distinctive smell, but it is not food. Paul came to bed soon after myself, the other night and the second he walked into the bedroom I said, “Is that TCP I can smell?” He replied, “Yes.” That is a very strong smell! Yet most young people would not know it, if they smelt it.
I have not used TCP for decades, nor do I ever intend to. x
