A Good Goddamn

I don't give a good goddamn, she said
Breaking the words off like tablets from
A block of chocolate
A good goddamn
Repeated once like some dumb echo
Hand raised, palm faced
Stopping traffic
You don't give a good goddamn?
I said, what the fuck does that mean?
She says no, steps over the box
Of photographs at her feet and starts
Pushing, pat-pushing me
Get out get out get out
So I get out and stand
Blunted on the doorstep
Taking in the rest of the street
Watching the kids opposite
Skateboard race
And not giving a good goddamn
myself
