"God its 'ot in 'ere!"
Carl considered his friend's statement to be a somewhat mute point as
it was
always hot in here. Here
being 'Scandals' their small towns one and only night-club.
"Aye yer not wrong" he replied while scanning around the room at the
various
shifting forms. His friend
mouthed something else what he could not catch. As usual the music
being so loud
that shouting down each
others ears until it literally hurt, being the only successful method
of
communication. Carl inclined his ear
towards his friend's mouth and braced himself.
"I said ready for another!"
He held his quarter-full bottle aloft and nodded his agreement. He
watched the
back of his friend's head
disappear towards the crowded bar. As he did so a form walked across
his line of
vision. Blonde, attractive
and looking directly at him. Holding his gaze for no more than a second
she
turned her head and continued
on her way. Carl continued to stare after her until the toilet door
swallowed
her up. He returned his
attention to the dance floor, absent-mindedly wondering if he knew the
girl from
somewhere else. He found
his gaze continually returning to the procession of girls going in and
out of
the ladies.
Every Friday night he came in here and every Saturday morning he
wondered why he
bothered. Most of the
girls he talked to he knew from work, friends, previous relationships
and so on.
Apart from the obligatory
'last dance' nothing ever came of it. Pondering whether to make this
his last
drink, the door opening at the
ladies caught his attention and there she was.
Initially she was framed in the light from behind her and although he
couldn't
make out any features he
knew it was her. She seemed to be looking for someone, scanning left to
right
before her. Making her way
to the lights of the bar she turned around and continued her search.
Now he was
sure he had never seen her
before. He would have remembered.
Not wanting to be to obvious he began to look up and down the bar as if
he
himself were looking for
someone. Every time he allowed his gaze to linger on her he was more
impressed.
Very attractive indeed.
Her expression as she looked around was one of almost indifference.
Almost as
though most of what lay
before her was of no interest whatsoever. The dress she wore
somewhat
understated her figure which in
itself was unusual for this place. Not much cleavage showing or
anything else
for that matter but he found
his gaze returning to her face. She reminded him of someone- that was
it- a
blonde version of the girl with
the red hair who advertised an internet company on the T.V. Yes that's
what she
was- What she was doing
was staring right at him.
The bottle in his hand paused mid-way to his mouth. What should he do
now?
Smile, Nod, nonchalantly look away-What? What was she thinking
anyway-
impossible to tell- her expression was somewhat, well 'blank' he
supposed the
word was. All these thoughts passed through his mind in the split
second before
she turned away.
"What you staring at then?" his friend had returned from the bar
unnoticed.
"What? Oh erm that blonde over by the bar."
"Which one..theres loads of 'em"
"The one...." Carl was desperately scanning the bar now but in
acknowledging his
friend he had lost her in the crowd.
"Not the one with the short blonde hair, big tits and fit arse in a
blue dress
who walked past me on her way to the bogs?" Although this description
could have
applied to any number of girls in the place Carl agreed with his
friend.
"Yeah that was her. Some piece or what?"
His friend replied but Carl was'nt listening. His attention was focused
on the
back of a girl with short blonde hair in a blue dress dancing on the
edge of the
dance floor. As she moved her head turned slightly to one side but that
was
enough- yes there she was.
"That's her innit? Look at the arse on it!" Carl followed his
friends
outstretched arm towards the girl.
"Yeah she's something alright"
"What do you suppose she's doing in 'ere then? Never seen her before
and i would
have noticed i'm sure! Hang on shes looking at me!" the last part of
his
friend's statement almost came out in a squeal. Carl looked across and
she was
indeed looking in their direction. Oh God she probably thinks we're a
pair of
weirdos. The sort of perv's who hang around the edge of Dance-floors
ogling the
women. He looked away embarrassed. Then he became more embarrassed as a
part of
him realized that's EXACTLY what they were.
"Yeah look away you snobby cow" This brought Carl's attention back to
his
friend.
"Yerwhat" he asked him somewhat confused.
"She's not interested in the likes of us is she?" he smiled and
continued " I
mean a bird like that she's well out of our league" he shook his head
whilst
smiling a look of resignation.
Carl's gaze returned to the back of the girl's head. What his friend
said was
right. She was too good for a place like this- and too good for the
likes of
him. What had he been thinking anyway? A chance meeting of their eye's
and his
imagination's in overdrive. God it must be the booze. Carl looked away
from the
back of the girl's head and laughed out loud.
"What's so funny?" his friend smiled at him.
"Nothing really" Carl replied. "Well maybe us eh?"
His friend smiled back and gestured towards the girl.
"Well bollocks to 'er anyway. Are we staying for the last dance or
what?"
Carl raised his eyebrows and said "You asking?"
Both of then cracked up in a fit of laughter causing a few of the
people in
their immediate vicinity to turn and look at them.
"I'm not that friggin' desperate yet! Nah sod it ,fancy a kebab?"
Carl decided he did, put down his half-full bottle and began to make
his way to
the exit.
The girl on the dance floor watched the fella and his mate leave. He
had looked
alright. His mate looked a bit creepy but she had liked him. It was his
eye's.
His where the only one's in the place that were not undressing her. He
had
looked kind of interesting. Bound to have a girlfriend though. He
didn't have
that desperate look in his eye. Oh well that's always the way. The best
ones are
always taken.
She smiled at her friend and continued to dance.
