The Scooteria Kids in Horseshoe Bay
Half-term had arrived and the Scooteria Kids found themselves alone as
Harry Hexagon had gone to try and find his way back to Italy. He wanted
to spend some time there to help get over the loss of Sonia
Sfera.
"Let's get on the road again, kids! I've heard about an island not far
from here. We can go and spend half-term there," said Emma T4, trying
to lift their spirits.
Most of their friends had gone away for half-term, and there was no one
to play with, so they all agreed to go.
Although the Scooteria Kids were nervous, they were all excited about
another great adventure ahead.
Off they set, making their way to the ferry at Lymington which would
take them to the Island of Wight, as Alice Zip called it! It was, of
course, the Isle of Wight they were heading for.
On the ferry were some big motor-bikes which were making fun of the
Scooteria Kids. Although Tommy Typhoon made them stop making fun of his
friends, he had an idea that they might come after them when they left
the ferry.
"Look," he said, as they gathered together to hear his plan, "we'll set
off and head over that hill there when we get off the ferry. The road
looks narrow and windy and they'll never catch us along there."
"Emma, you lead the way, and I'll stay at the back in case they get
close."
"OK, Tommy," Emma replied, "Lucy, Alice, Rebecca, you stay close to me.
Don't mess about or they'll catch us!"
Lucy Liberty, Alice Zip, and Rebecca Runner were Emma's sisters and she
had promised Harry she would look after them while he was away.
As soon as the ferry barrier lifted, the scooters were off, chased by
the motor-bikes whose riders were caught by surprise. Not expecting the
Scooteria Kids to go the way they had, they struggled to keep up. When
one of the motor-bikes crashed in the chase, the others stopped, and
the Scooteria Kids were free.
"Look at that!" shouted Sally Skipper, as they reached the top of the
hill.
Stretched out below was a fantastic view of the sea and the
cliffs.
"Let's follow that road down there. It looks as if it runs along the
coast," suggested PX Peter. He had found it hard to keep up with the
others in their escape from the ferry because of his age. However, the
others thought he was very wise, and they were happy for him to lead
them down to the coast road.
Compared to the roads they had left back at home, this road was empty
and before long they were trying all sorts of new tricks.
"Watch this wheelie, everyone!" cried Tommy, as he sped along on his
back wheel.
"Look out, Emma!" shouted Rebecca, as she raced along at top speed. She
was definitely the fastest of them all.
Stylish EmilyT2 and good-looking Sally Skipper just purred along with
PX Peter, looking out at the sea and the cliffs, letting the others
play around.
Lucy, with her bigger wheels, was able to go round bends at incredible
speeds.
"Ner, nikky, ner, ner!" she teased, as she overtook everyone in the
twisty bits.
Until &;#8230;..
"Aahhhh!" she screamed as she nearly crashed on some cow's toilet in
the middle of the road.
She managed not to crash, but that clamed everybody down, which was
just as well as they now approached a small town. They travelled
through the narrow streets and followed a sign down to the sea.
It was a dead-end, but it was beautiful, with a few houses near the
sea, a caf?, a pottery, and a guest-house. The owner of the caf?, a
horrible lady, shouted, "Go away, we don't want you here"
As they turned to leave, they saw a white-haired man sitting outside
the lovely-looking guest-house, with his head in his hands, moaning,
"No, no, not again."
"What's up?" asked Emma.
He looked up, surprised by the scooter's question, but not surprised
enough to forget his woes.
"It's Chelsea, my football team, they've just lost to Spurs, 4 -0. I
suppose it's better than last time though, but it's the thought of my
friend Gibbers 'phoning me, because he supports Spurs and we haven't
beaten them for years."
"We're here to help get over losing Sonia, we all loved her," said
little Rebecca, "what's your name?"
The man looked round at Rebecca, "My name is Howard. Why am I so upset
at a game of football, you're the ones who should be upset, but you
look so happy."
"We are," replied Lucy, "we've found a lovely place here, but that
horrible lady in the caf? told us to leave. Do you know who owns this
guest-house?"
"Yes, of course. I do. It's called Horseshoe Bay House," said Howard,
"would you like to stay here for your holiday?"
"Haven't you cleaned the windows yet, Howard!" screeched a voice from
inside.
"Uh, oh, you'd better come inside and meet my wife."
The Scooteria Kids said yes they would like to stay, and they went
inside to meet Howard's wife, Christine.
They stayed at Horseshoe Bay House for the rest of half-term. There
were other children staying there, and before long they were playing
games with them, including ScootBall, the game they started at school,
where children played football while riding around on the
scooters!
The Scooteria Kids offered to help Howard and Christine around the
place, and enjoyed running into town to get supplies for the
guest-house. They had a great time.
By the time they had to leave, they were calling the kind man and his
wife, Uncle Howard and Auntie Christine.
But where did Emma think she knew him from, and where did this fabulous
team, Spurs, play? &;#8230;&;#8230;
