Wi` t`window sills and doorsteps
Scoured yeller brown
There war colour to be searched for
In this mucky,grimy tarn.
Wi` a pint er Barnsley Bitter
And a bit er yorkshire daft,
There were laughter to be listened for
In this place er endless graft.
Wi `t` women wracked be children
And often pinny-wrapped,
There war beauty to be looked for
Where so many felt so trapped.
Wi` all they wrote about us
We sound as thick as wood,
But that coal you might be burning
Is covered in our blood.
