Waiting

He told me he would meet me there,
Where we used to play,
He said to wait,
He'd be a while,
But before the coming day.
And I waited for him there,
On the spot I used to stand,
Where we used to play
My favourite game,
In which we kissed eachothers hand.
He told me not to go,
If at first he did not show,
For very soon,
He'd make his way,
And be sorry he was slow.
Together we had plans,
To both run away,
So for that time
And ever more
Our love would always stay.
But come he never did,
For I waited there all day,
Only to find
Being left alone,
Alone in every way.
I'd dreamt of that day,
Time and time again,
But when at last,
When it finally came,
I realised only then,
Love is a thing to last forever,
So never toy around,
With that word which has one meaning,
And one meaning only,
And that it is to last forever.
If you take this advice,
Then you won't end up like me,
A nobody to all,
For I was prepared to wait.
I promised I would meet him here.
I promised I would wait,
Until he showed his handsome face.
I was foolish to have said such a thing,
For I am still waiting now.
