Whale and her Calf

The mother waits no more,
She strays from her pod,
After many months of waiting,
Is feeling rather odd.
The pain is agonising,
Though always worth the wait,
And suddenly she realises,
What a wonder she'd create.
Then the moment comes,
For her most precious jewel,
And in this sea of bloody fog,
She hears her child's call.
This time is filled with love,
Yet, something is not right,
She knew it was a whaling ship,
She must put up a fight.
But she is feeling weak,
From just giving birth.
After all this time of waiting,
Is this all it was worth?
She calls for her pod,
But time is running out,
She hears the monsters up above,
And then the final shout.
The harpoon splits through the sea,
These people, they'd mastered the art,
But this is not what killed the whale,
She died of broken heart.
Her Child is left alone,
Without saying goodbye,
Every second passing now,
Gives the baby time to die.
