Conscious Conscience
I wanted to shout, 'Get out, get out',
but my heart had already opened the door, given you the key
and unpacked your belonging.
You were lying; sleeping in my special place.
I didn't want to wake you, because then you would both be here in the
room with me,
you and your conscious conscience.
I console myself with the fact that I can walk away,
but I know I am running on the spot.
If I should stop to catch my breath, I would drop everything.
Just to be with you, in my thoughts and words and deeds.
But my needs must.
Soon this place will be empty again. You will take my love with you and
leave me nothing but emptiness.
'Get out' my heart silently shouts, but you were never here, you could
never leave.
