what does it take
to be
the Poet Laureate?

I came across the man
with this title.
I thought:
"he must be
the big hitter,
the playmaker,
the general;
I'm in safe hands,
he'll show me
the path".

not quite.

I read a few
but, couldn't take it.
I almost drowned
in the bile.
I almost digested
the poison.

do I have to
churn out such
hopeless drivel
for an appreciative nod?

please put this
plague in
acid and spare us
your plastic
mock misery.

save it
for the nobles
