EIGHT SECONDS

a man considered suicide
to gain eternal sleep
to reach this lofty goal
from a tall building, he would leap
.
he made the calculations
and concluded in a bit
that he would have eight seconds
for some thoughts before he hit
.
he worked out his intentions
had the script inside his head
then wandered to the neighborhood
where soon, they'd find him dead
.
he walked into the building
and was zipped up to the top
but not as fast as he would fly
upon his final drop
.
he stood upon that lofty perch
then walked off into air
and this is what he thought about
as wind rushed through his hair
.
a second for his mother
a second for his dad
a second for his siblings
and the fun that they'd all had
.
a second for his relatives
a second for his friends
a second for his schoolmates
plus some other odds and ends
.
a second for himself
and then the second after that ?
he must have made an error
after seven, he went splat
