Sentinel over a crumbling
Memorial to nostalgia
And held tight in a wall
Seven inches thick,
My compatriots and I
Have been here forever.
Have watched the rolling green
Beneath us swell and ripple.
Watched crisp lines blur
Tall things crumble,
Kissed on temples, forehead,
Cheekbones, bottom lip
By snow and acid rain.
