EPIC
Episode 1
Anderson Blake was having a most wonderful dream. In it he could soar
above everyone. Though he was far from being a little boy anymore he
still often had happy dreams of being a great superhero or the only man
in the world who had the ability of flight. In his own life he had a
terrible fear of planes, which made his nocturnal visualizations very
odd. At the moment he was flying above Los Angeles and it was very dark
out that no one could actually see him. Everything was going very well
when all of a sudden he begins to lose the power of flight and then
starts to fall. The fall seems to be endless as he can clearly see the
ground coming close and closer. Yet the closer it appears to come to
him the longer it takes for him to actually hit it. So the fall goes on
for quite some time and while this happens he fears for his life. He
then reaches out to grab a hold of a nearby tree, but it is too far out
of his reach. He positions himself to move closer to anything he can
grab on to as to stop his rapid descent, but to no avail. He keeps
falling as anything and everything moves further away from his grasp.
It's as though they're deliberately shifting as to prevent him from
using them as a safety net.
Enough time has passed that Anderson begins to no longer fear the
inevitable. He is assured that there is nothing in his own power to
prolong his plunge into forever oblivion. Then he hears a loud sound.
The sound appears to be very close to him now. He looks around but he
can't see where this sound might actually be coming from. The next
second he is lying in his bed fully awake. He takes in a sigh of
relief. The sound he could hear so deafeningly was his phone ringing
trying so desperate to wake him out of his dream state of being. The he
yawns and clicks the cordless on. "Hello?" "I have to talk to you!" The
voice on the other end is very strident. This causes Anderson to become
alarmed. "Who is this!" "Today! It must be today! Meet me in front of
the Hudson Library." "What is this?" But this last question gets no
answer as the caller has apparently hung up. If that weren't bad enough
he then hears the sound of thunder outside. He left his blinds open the
whole night and so far the skies look clear as he can see.
The day he though would be an ordinary Saturday could have far more in
store for him than he realized. He decided that he had nothing better
to do, so going out to meet a complete stranger may not be all that
bad. Who was he kidding? He wouldn't even meet people he talked to
online. But who was this that he was going to meet? And what did this
person want with him? He decided he wanted to find out. His interest
was peaked at least that much. "Hey, Anderson. How's it going?" "Hey,
Becky." He and Becky had been good friends ever since they were in
diapers. And lucky for the both of them they had always lived near to
each other. When they both moved out of their parent's homes they found
the same apartment building. And it fit to both their liking so they
now live across the hall from each other. "Where are you headed?" "It's
the weekend. So, normally I would be going to a theme park or
something." They both laugh. "That's right. The eternal boy. You never
will outgrow Disneyland will you?" "I hope not." He smiles at her. He
then goes over to her and kisses her cheek. "So if it's not 'The
happiest place on earth' then where are you off to?" "Ask me when I get
back." "You can count on it."
As he stands there waiting at the library he begins to feel foolish.
When exactly was he supposed to meet this guy anyway? It had been over
an hour already and he was ready to call it a day. He had been inside
and asked one of the librarians had anyone been in there asking about
him? So far no new information. Finally an elderly man comes walking
towards him. This man's clothes seem as though they've seen better
days, as does the gentleman. "Anderson! Thank God you came." He sits
down on the bench next to Anderson. "Are you the one who called me?"
"Yes. I have grave news for you." "Look, I don't know what this is
about, but-----". The old man cuts him off and tries to explain the
situation. "Listen. Don't say anything until after I've finished. And
keep in mind that no matter how crazy any of what I'm about to tell you
sounds, that it is real. All of this is real." Anderson nods. "OK,
then. First of all I come from a long time from now. I come from the
future. Not a future that will be one that can be." At this Anderson
decides to get up. The man grabs a hold of his T-shirt and pulls him
back down. "Now listen to me, dammit! I know how this is going to sound
but hear me out!"
"The world as you know it won't exist for much longer. Something big is
coming. And it's something no one was prepared for. We are not alone."
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" "That aliens have landed?
Yes. But it's more than that. They're going to be here today. Today in
this time. Growing up reading history I feel as if I was here myself. I
felt as if I had lived through it." "What do you mean aliens are here?
Look, maybe you need a doctor." "Listen to me, please. I don't have
much time left. They came as peaceful being from beyond." He then
points to the sky. "But that was all a guise. They weren't here to
befriend us at all. They will succeed in destroying life as you know
it, unless you prevent it." "Hey, look. For one thing even if you were
from the future, why are you wearing clothes that look older than I
do?" "I got these out of an old museum. The 21st Museum. It has relics
of this time. I knew I would be too out of place had I worn my own
clothes. Everything has changed." "You have an excuse for everything I
see." "Nevermind that. The thing is that when they come today everyone
will trust them. Of course there were some people who had doubts, but
even they became docile. They will use you all and set into motion a
Great War. It's been called World War 3. They cause everyone to turn
against one another, which in the end has everyone fighting one
another. Hope is lost and love is destroyed. It's a nightmare version
of the world as it already is. Think of every bad thing that's ever
happened to you or any fear you ever had. And multiply that be 1,000."
"Why did you come to me with this news?" "You're the only one who can
end it. I can't tell you all of this now though. If I did it would
change events in a negative way. All I can say is that you're special.
There are things that you don't know about yourself. Look to your past
for the answers." Then the old man starts coughing violently. "Hey, are
you all right?" Anderson extends a hand. "No, but its too late to
change that. I was on my way to death when I came here. It was
forbidden for me to travel here. Humans are never allowed." "What do
you mean humans are never allowed?" "We are no longer the dominant
species on this planet. They came here for a reason. Their intentions
were never good. But no one found this out until it was too
late."
Just then the rumbling thunder sounds start over again. Yet the sky is
very clear and bright. "Their here now. Remember to not trust them. No
matter how much you want to. Even if you're the only person who
disbelieves them. Please remember this. If you fail then the world is
doomed after all. And my chance for any future dies along with it. I
wanted to die with my wife in bed; not be operated on and destroyed by
aliens. When S.E.T.I was looking they were looking in the wrong
direction. The whole Roswell myth was just a myth. The first time they
came was here in this year; 2001. And they never left." He coughs even
worse now and starts to spit up blood. This stops a few people nearby
as they rush over to this. Anderson tries to help him, as do the
others. Someone shouts for a doctor, yet no one actually makes the call
for one. They're all watching this man writhe on the hard concrete in
front of Hudson Beach library in the beach area of Southern California.
The man dies there. The thunder grows louder and louder so much so that
some people cover their ears. Then they look above and notice a most
amazing site. Above in the clouds there is a large craft. A craft that
is an unidentified flying object. And now Anderson starts to believe
the man. If only he knew why he chose him. The craft comes closer and
people scatter. The size of it is so big it covers everyone's view of
the sky. Someone shouts, "They're here."
