JENNY IS FREE
I've always loved you Jenny
From that very first day
When our world was young
And you came out to play.
Since then, you've been my life, my dream
But you wouldn't be my wife.
That's why I took this knife
That's why I took your life
To save you from him
To keep you free
The life I love only living for me.
I tried not to hurt you Jenny
But better by far the pain of this hour
Than withering of bloom in his loveless arms.
Just one little push and one little squeal -
Of pain? Or was it pleasure
That we could be so easily tied forever?
It should be him on the floor at my feet
With life dripping down through the cracks.
But he wouldn't come and you wouldn't go
And something had to be done.
Now, as you lie, my mind's at rest
Knowing this way was the best.
Can you hear the sirens Jenny?
Raucous, like gulls circling prey.
And there'd the flicker of blue in the night
Speeding to spoil one thing that's right.
Should I stay, Jenny? Or like you, escape?
Knowing they won't understand
Why I took this knife
Why I took your life
Why I had to set you free.
