Chapter 2
Marin and Paris were going through the shops, stopping at Charlotte
Russe an extra long time, to admire the sparkly and sequined outfits.
Paris held a low, purple top up, and it glittered in the stores
artificial light,
"What do you think?" She asked proudly. Marin looked it over then held
out a sparkly gold in the same style,
"This would look better, it compliments your coloring and gives you a
more exotic look." Paris compared the two, and said critically,
"Well, I guess your right. It does look good. But you know purple is my
favorite color!" Marin sighed dramatically,
"How could I forget?" Paris winked and drifted off through the racks,
coming back with a silvery gown, and said,
"THIS would look good on you!" Marin made a look with er face so
horrified that Paris burst out laughing. Marin held the dress up, and
said,
"This is made for someone a size six!" Paris looked innocent,
"Oh, is it? I never noticed!" She took the dress away, and when she
came back, she said decisively,
"I think I will get the gold one." She went over to the register, and
Marin wandered away, looking idly at different things. She looked up
suddenly, sensing the arrival of someone she knew. Anjelica was waving
at her ecstatically, her arm linked with a young man that Marin hadn't
seen yet. She was quick to evaluate, tall, light brown hair, reminded
her of a cowboy for some reason. The pair was being trailed by a
slightly taller young man, with dark hair, and amused, mysterious eyes
that were a deep grey.
Marin waved back at Anjelica and called over her shoulder, to
Paris,
"Paris, you of all people would not want to miss this." Paris, with her
new top in a bag, was at Marin's side in seconds. She noticed Anjelica
and her two attractive men. She grinned, and waited for them to arrive
before draping herself instantly onto the arm of the free one. She said
sweetly,
"Well, Anjelica, I see you have excellent taste in men. I was beginning
to wonder." Anjelica glared at Paris darkly, and shot Marina helpless
look. She said,
"This is Georges Gere. That is his cousin, Christophe." Paris looked
adoringly up at Christophe who had a utterly blank look on his
face,
"I just love a man named Chris." Christophe frowned,
"It's Christophe, please." Paris giggled, looking at him. Marin tried
to keep a strait face, and would've succeeded if Christophe hadn't
looked at her so plaintively. She giggled herself, and was instantly
horrified. Christophe was grinning at her. Anjelica was quick to notice
and looked at Marin meaningfully, which Marin abruptly ignored.
Anjelica was silently devising some devious way of getting rid of Paris
when Georges interrupted,
"You know, I am getting a little hungry, I was hoping someone else was
too." He smiled that charming smile of his. Marin smiled back,
something sly, and as devious as Anjelica's thoughts,
"I am starving. Where were you thinking of going?" Anjelica said,
"How about that cute Mexican place down that street?" Marin
snickered,
"That street?" Anjelica waved a hand impatiently,
"The one that Barnes and Nobles is on, you know?" Marin nodded,
"I know, but you really could learn the street names." Anjelica gave
Marina Look,
"Ok, can you name some of them?" Marin paused a moment, her face
blank,
"Er, no?" Christophe laughed, and Anjelica gave Marin a triumphant
look.

Marin had a headache, too much talking and definitely too much of
Paris's flirting. She was glad when it was over, and she was safely at
home, being kept company by Jaq. She had Nelly Furtado playing, and was
on the couch, humming along with the music. Jaq said,
"So, tell me again, what did she do?" He had a slightly amused look on
his face. Marin glowered at him and said,
"Isn't this the third time?" Jaq shrugged,
"Fine, so how was the rest of the day?" Marin sat up to take a sip of
her tea, and said,
"Oh, otherwise fine." Jaq was doodling on a piece of paper, and stopped
to look at his picture admiringly. He held it up and winked,
"What do you think?" Marin laughed and took the picture to examine it
closely, it was a picture of Paris, dressed up in a devil suit. Marin
said,
"You have talent, have you ever thought of doing anything related to
drawing, maybe being an animator?" Jaq shook his head,
"I don't really want to." He was blushing. Marin sat up, and
said,
"Jaq, what are you hiding?" He turned his head away and didn't say
anything. Marin jumped off the couch and threw her arms around him,
kissing his neck,
"What is it?" Embarrassed, he said,
"An online comic." Marin sat back and grinned madly,
"You have an online comic? That is so cool! Can I see it?" Jaq nodded,
and got up, walking over to the computer and clicked online. He typed
in address quickly, and then backed away for Marin to read. Marin sat
down in the chair, and read the comic, and then all the back comics, a
look of wonder on her face. She turned to Jaq,
"Why haven't you told any of us?" Jaq asked eagerly,
"Do you think it is any good?" Marin looked taken aback,
"Good? I absolutely love it!" She winked, "And you nailed my character
perfectly." Jaq flushed even redder, and looked down. Marin had never
seen Jaq embarrassed before. Jaq said quickly,
"Marin? Please don't show it to the others!" Marin nodded,
"I promise." Jaq looked down at his watch, and was startled to see what
time it was. He jumped up and said,
"I have to go pick up my brother from school!" Marin got up too,
"Poor kid, forgotten by his own brother." Jaq asked,
"Come with me?" Marin nodded, and grabbed her coat, and her knit
purse,
"Let's go."
* * *
Jaq's little brother was a red headed monster of about 10 years old. He
had freckles all over his face, and his name was Jonothan. When Jaq
pulled into Flowery Elementary School, Marin murmured,
"I remember going here. We had the best principal ever. His name was
Mr. A. That was what we called him." Jaq nodded,
"I went over to El Verano." Marin saw Jonothan in front of the school
chasing a little girl around with what looked like a handful of worms.
Marin chuckled and pointed him out. Jaq groaned, and both of them
jumped out of the car. Marin got there first, and grabbed Jonothan so
that he couldn't go after her anymore. Jonothan looked up at her
innocently,
"Hello Marin! Beautiful day, huh?" Marin gave him a stern look,
"Jon, you're a monster." The child cackled evilly, and looked up at his
big brother. Jaq just shook his head,
"In the car." Jon grabbed his backpack and got into the backseat,
promptly locking all car doors. Marin looked over at Jaq,
"Why did I come?" Jaq responded,
"Because my brother is soo cute."
"That better be sarcasm."
* * *
Finally, they were on their way back, and Jonothan was somewhat quiet,
since they were letting him listen to his absolute favorite singer,
Madonna. Marin said in a dead voice,
"Your brother is strange." Jaq responded,
"I don't need to be told." Jonothan took that chance to start
singing,
"LIKE A VIRGIN, TOUCHED FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!!" Marin flinched. Jaq
shouted at his brother,
"Jon! Please be quiet! That was the condition for listening to
Madonna!" Jonothan just laughed maniacly and sat back, eyeing both
Marin and Jaq. Marin warned him,
"Whatever you're thinking, don't, I will personally pull you limb from
limb, AFTER, letting Paris baby-sit you!" Jonothan's face pulled into a
horrified look, and he pleaded,
"Please, please! I don't want to play Prom Date!" Jaq chuckled,
"I like your methods of control." Marin grinned,
"So do I." They had just passed McDonalds, when there was a commotion.
The kids at the skate park abandoned it quickly enough, running and
shutting at each other. Jonothan pushed his face against the window,
watching wide-eyed. Marin noticed a huge, black figure, and gave Jaq a
look, then it seemed to disappear right before their eyes. Jonothan
said,
"Woah! That is sooo cool!" Marin and Jaq looked at each other,
something dark in both their expressions. Traffic came to a screeching
halt, because of the mass exodus of kids shouting about someone being
dead. Jonothan opened his car door, and ran from the car toward the
skate park, both Jaq and Marin after him in a second.
Jonothan stood, his eyes wide and frightened, not expecting what he
saw. The corpse was unrecognizable, blood and various body parts
scattered through the entire area of the skate park. The gore was worse
then the most graphic slasher flick, and made even Marin and Jaq feel
sick, they led Jonothan away to the car, as sirens filled the air, and
stunned onlookers tried crowding in to get a good view. Jonothan burst
into tears.

Back at Jaq's house, he looked haggard. Marin came downstairs,
"I gave him a mild sedative, so he is sleeping right now. Poor kid."
Jaq nodded, and said softly,
"It was wore then I thought it was, Mon didn't even tell the half of
it."
